Sustainability

Here at PGC, we’re dedicated on making a difference to our local environment.

Through a combination of improving the impact we leave on our surroundings and encouraging wildlife and their habitats, we want to create a harmonious ecosystem for years to come.

These are a few of the projects we have underway at the moment, and we will look to keep exploring new ways to make a difference for the better.

Bird Boxes

PGC members and greens staff have installed several bird boxes across the course to provide habitat for all of our bird life. They have been constructed using offcuts and reclaimed materials - making use of what would previously been considered scrap material. We are looking to encourage new and existing species to make PGC their home.

Woodland Management

Our Greens Team are managing the Woodland Areas to encourage new growth and habitats for local wildlife.

We have increased the size of the wild areas on the course and have seen an increase in pollinators, without affecting play or the natural beauty of the course.

Using logpiles creates an environment for small mammals and insects fuelling the local ecosystem.

The wildflower areas have brought colour and beauty to the woodlands, further encouraging the insect population to flourish.

Bee Keeping

One of our members has several bee hives tucked away, on the course, producing his own honey. This has been a great way for some of our members to get their hands on some locally-produced jars of the sweet stuff, with regular batches coming into the clubhouse!

Bees are crucial to the environment. Approximately 90% of wild plants rely on bees to pollinate, helping both bees and plants to survive and flourish.

Species

PGC is home to a vast variety of wildlife, including Roe Deer, Foxes, Common Buzzard, Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, and Greater Spotted Woodpecker, to name but a few.

Recycled Raw Materials

Composting - We have several composting sites, across the course, where Greens Staff can deposit cut grass to compost down, for use back on the course in the future.

Water Harvesting - By using a large rain storage facility, very little (to no!) mains water is used on the course throughout the year. This is both cost efficient and excellent for the environment.
