Lady Captain's Blog - September 2018

I can't believe that six months has gone by since taking up my term of office! Despite bad weather at the start of the season, the Spring Meeting was fine and sunny for my drive-in with LVC and the Past LC.

For the Tuesday Competitions, there have been some good scores and well done to the winners and runners-up. All the notable comps i.e. Scott Leggatt, Enid Parker Putter, Hilda Topping Trophy, Guild Cup, Charity Cup etc were all enjoyed and well played by everyone. We also hosted the Elsie Corlett LLCGA Comp this year which was very successful.

The Ladies Invitation had a small field of players but was enjoyed by our visitors and the course was complimented. This led to the start of a long hot spell. I was away in Gibraltar at my daughter's wedding for Lady Vice Captains Prize, but prizes for this and other Comps will be presented by me on Trophy Night.

Lady President's Day was a fine and sunny day, but... my LC 2nd Round on the Sunday was a washout! Torrential rain!  Only 9 holes played but hot drinks laced with whisky - plus the cream cakes - did help afterwards and were much appreciated. Thank you to those who baked and bought cakes. The Evening Presentation of Prizes was very enjoyable and it was great to have family and friends attending the Dinner and speeches. My thanks to all for the lovely cards and presents.

Charity events have been well attended, Preston South Rotary Charity Golf Day being one of them. A cheque was received both for my charity and Mr. Captain's from them.  I was really pleased that my Coffee Morning in aid of Derian House Children's Hospice was successful too. It was well attended and all the contributions made i.e. raffle prizes, books, cakes and donations were much appreciated.  I also received raffle prize money from the recent Ladies Open which was well organised by Liz Pace.

I have only mentioned a few of the events and competitions held at PGC but I would like to thank all who are involved at the Club whether it be the Mixed Games, Scratch, Handicap, Vets, Miller, Bolton Bowl, etc.

As we head towards autumn and the end of the season, I wish you all happy golfing and thank you for your support and contributions towards the 2018 Captains' Charities.
