Situated on a wooded promontory overlooking the old Port of Preston, this delightfully varied and well-drained course plays well throughout the year and is highly regarded locally and a firm favourite with visiting golfers. It comprises two loops of 9 holes and so is well-suited to 27 hole visits.
There are five par threes none of which is long but all of which are tricky with fast but true greens.
The signature hole is generally regarded to be the 16th hole which is a lengthy dog-leg with an open culvert protecting a sloping green.
Our rolling parkland course is a natural home to wildlife, including roe deer and foxes. The many silver birch trees and alders provide habitats and stop-overs for a huge number of different species of birds from lesser spotted woodpeckers and goldcrests to pink-footed geese and peregrine falcons.
Being naturally well-drained, the course plays easily all year round. It possesses hazards to trap the unwary and sweeping fairways to exhilarate the adventurous.
Everything that the handicap golfer seeks is on offer at this attractive parkland course. It is not a long course, but it has features that transcend mere length. That is why people so rarely make a monkey of it.
